Land Acknowledgement
We honor the sacred earth upon which our school stands and we acknowledge that The Waldorf School of Mendocino County sits on unceded land of the Pomo Nation.
This land was taken through forced removal, slavery, and genocide. In the spirit of truth and responsibility may we, the WSMC community, humble ourselves and hold in our hearts the tragic story of this country, so that we may strive for reverence and respect for all people, beings and our Mother Earth.
Our intention is to honor the history of this land and the current impact to the descendants who live here. By honoring the land and her original inhabitants we can begin to be a part of the healing that needs to take place. We also wish to foster a sense of connection and allegiance to this land, her original inhabitants and current wildlife that resides here for ourselves and the children in our care.
We pay our deep, heartfelt respect to the elders, their descendants, past, present and future and honor with gratitude the land, plants and animals.
Wildlife Habitat
WSMC is certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Wildlife Habitat. Our campus provides the four basic habitat elements needed for wildlife to thrive: food, water, cover and places to raise young.
Solar Array
On January 25, 2019 the Waldorf School of Mendocino County held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for our new solar electrical system. The school’s 15kW, photovoltaic solar system is tied to the grid, and is designed to produce 90% of the electricity used at WSMC. The array also includes a charging station that can be used by staff and parents. The solar array stands as a visible testament to the school’s commitment to environmental stewardship and a sustainable future.
